Vinternatsblót e o Ritual de Chegada do Inverno :: Vinternatsblót and the Ritual of Welcoming Winter

Também conhecido por Haustblót, este ritual da velha Europa do Norte, associado ao dia 14 de Outubro celebra o início das noites mais frescas, o arrefecer do sol, e, na sua Tradição original, indica que tudo aquilo que foi produzido no Verão foi já recolhido e armazenado de modo a assegurar a sobrevivência na escuridão do Inverno - época que oferecia somente a caça como sustento.

Um blót  é uma refeição sagrada, partilhada com os Deuses, e no calendário antigo este simboliza a despedida das colheitas durante o período gélido e estéril - por essa razão, estes povos veneravam os animais considerados sacrificais fortalecidos pelas pastagens nos cumes dos montes durante o Verão. A Ynglinga Saga relata que à chegada do Inverno se deve proceder a oferendas de sangue para amansar a severidade do frio, daí que seja o mês sangrento, consagrado a Thor.

Sendo o patrono da agricultura e criador das águas fecundantes por via das trovoadas revitalizantes, Thor seria o agente pacificador dos humores do Inverno. Com o seu martelo sacrificial, Mjolnir, símbolo de morte e ressurreição, governava as forças do trovão, do relâmpago, do vento, da chiva, e dominava sobre a luz do sol e fazia irromper as plantações.

Este banquete seria constituído por vegetais, tubérculos, leguminosas, pão, e claro, carne!

Also known as Haustblót, this old ritual of Northern Europe, associated with October the 14th, celebrates the beginning of the cold nights, the gonlding sun, and in its original Tradition indicates that what was produced in the Summer was already collected and stored to ensure survival in the darkness of winter - times when hunting was the only way to survive through winter.

 A blót is a sacred meal, shared with the Gods, and in the ancient calendar it symbolizes the farewell of crops during the cold and sterile winter - for this reason, these people worshiped the sacrificial animals considered strong by pastures in the tops of the mountains during summer. Ynglinga the Saga reports that the arrival of winter should make blood offerings to appease the severity of the cold ,  sacred to Thor .Being the patron of agriculture and creator of the fertilizing waters of thunderstorms through revitalizing, Thor would be the  peacemaker of the harsh Winter Moods. With its hammer, Mjolnir , symbol of death and resurrection , he ruled the forces of thunder, lightning , wind, and ruled over the sunshine.

This feast would consist of vegetables , tubers , legumes , bread, and of course , meat !
